FAQs


What are the basic eligibility requirements?

Undergraduate students are required to hold a minimum Junior status (60 hours) and graduate students (exception Hospitality Tourism) are required to have earned a minimum 12 hours graduate level hours (6000 level); GPA and course pre-requisites requirements differ across majors.

How do I apply to participate in a LIFE Opportunities Internship?

Students are required to complete a Student Internship Application and submit it with a 1-page resume via email to cobabi@uno.edu.

Am I guaranteed an Internship once I apply if I satisfy eligibility requirements?

No, internships are not guaranteed; the Internship Partner determines through an interview process arranged by the Internship Partner which student (s) will receive an internship offer.

Who are the Internship Partnering organizations?

To view a list of previous Internship Partners, click here; however this list is always a “list in progress” because organizations continuously submit internship descriptions to become an Internship Partner.

Who will contact me regarding an interview with the Internship Partner?

The Internship Partner offering the internship opportunity.

Do I have a choice in which Internship Partner receives my application and resume?

No, all eligible student applications/resumes are placed in an Internship e-Packet based on the internship course the student has checked on the application; the e-Packets are emailed to Internship Partners that has requested an intern.

Can I locate my own internship opportunity?

Yes, however, the opportunity will not be considered as an internship for academic credit until the company submit the Job Description of Intern form and the form is reviewed to determine if the duties satisfy internship requirement.

Can I participate in an internship with my current employer?

Yes, it is necessary, however, to have your employer complete the Job Description of Current Employee form to make certain that your internship duties are significantly different from you current duties.

How many hours am I expected to work?

Academic internships require 150 hours over the course of the semester.

Are students compensated for internships?

While the LIFE Opportunities Program strongly encourages Internship Partners to fairly compensate students, it is up to the discretion of the Internship Partner with the exception of Accounting Internships.

Am I required to complete an internship as a part of graduation requirements?

Only Marketing undergraduate students and Hospitality Tourism graduate students are required to complete an internship.

What are the academic requirements of an internship?

Internship courses have different academic requirements; the Internship Faculty Advisor determines the academic requirements.

Do I have to pay tuition to enroll in the internship course?

Yes

Can I drop out of the internship program at any time?

NO! Students should not enter the program unless they plan on finishing all scheduled work.
