TRANSFER STUDENTS

To transfer to the University of New Orleans, you should apply for admission at least one semester before you wish to enroll.  You'll need to submit your application fee as well as complete, official transcripts from each college and university you have attended, regardless of whether credit was earned or is desired.

Application Procedures and Guidelines see above.

The Admissions Office will evaluate your academic work taken at the other institutions for general university purposes.  A complete transfer credit evaluation will be mailed to you once you are admitted and all official transcripts are received.  Admission counselors will be happy to meet with you if you have any questions regarding your transfer credit evaluation.  You can make an appointment by calling 504/280-6595 or 1-800-256-5-UNO.

The academic dean of the College of Business Administration will determine which business and HRT credits will be accepted towards your UNO degree.  The Director of the School of HRT will give input regarding HRT credits.

TRANSFERRING FROM A COMMUNITY/JUNIOR COLLEGE

*Not more than one-half of the credit required for your degree may be accepted from a community or junior college.  The maximum number of credits that can be transferred is 64.

*UNO includes all grades in your GPA.  Your GPA will include all attempts at a course even if your home institution deleted your first attempt (repeats) from your GPA.

*No vocational courses are accepted at UNO.

TRANSFERRING FROM AN ACCREDITED FOUR-YEAR UNIVERSITY

*If you have completed 50 or fewer semester hours of college work, your academic record may not be more than 10 quality points below a 2.0 (C) average on total college work completed to be considered for admission.

*If you have completed more than 50 semester hours of credit, you must have at least a 2.0 (C) average on total college work attempted to be considered for admission.

*UNO includes all grades in your GPA.  Your GPA will include all attempts at a course, even if your home institution deletes your first attempt (repeats) from your GPA.

*RESIDENCE REQUIREMENTS: A transfer student who transfers from another university and becomes a candidate for a bachelor=s degree at UNO must fulfill a minimum residence requirement of two semesters (or four summer sessions) at UNO and must earn at least 30 semester hours of credit.  For all students, the last 30 hours of course work must be taken in residence while enrolled in the college from which the degree is to be earned.  At least 15 hours of HRT courses must be taken within the College of Business Administration at UNO.

*For HRT students, the extent to which your transfer credits fulfill degree requirements as listed in the portion of the general university catalog which outlines the HRT curriculum will be determined by the College of Business Administration Academic Dean with input from the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration.

The counselor for the College of Business will advise you on all of your transfer credit work for the College of Business.

One Year Out Rule

Applicants who do not meet the above criteria required for transfer admission to UNO, and have not been enrolled in a college or university during the previous 12 months, may sometimes be considered for admission.  The applicant would be required to present to the dean of the College of Business evidence of ability to do satisfactory college work.  Students admitted on this basis will be placed on scholastic probation.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS/ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) STUDENTS
